Pickup/Futsal

Saturday Pickup is starting up again for the winter months!

During the winter months, EMFC will offer club-wide pick-up play every Saturday morning at Lane Community College. The purpose of these Saturdays is to promote greater social interaction among club players, as well as to further improve and develop players by providing access within the club for players to more consistently play within a wider variety of playing-environments.

Pickup Games

On Saturday mornings we will open the LCC field/s and provide balls, cones, bibs, and a variety of fields/formats set-up. Coaches and/or older players will help facilitate play for any players, of all ages and genders across the club, that attend and wish to play. All players attending on Saturdays will be allowed to play. Coaches and/or designated older players at the fields will help facilitate the forming of teams, inclusion of all, and resolution of disputes or disagreements that may arise. Players will be expected to play with open and inclusive attitudes focusing primarily on the enjoyment of playing, rather than on competitive outcomes.

Winter Saturday Pick up games will be at Lane Community College from 10am to 11:30am, with a 30min buffer at the end until 12pm:

  • Saturday November 30, 2024
  • Saturday December 7, 2024
  • Saturday December 14, 2024
  • Saturday December 21, 2024
  • Saturday December 28, 2024
  • Saturday January 4, 2025
  • Saturday January 11, 2024
  • Saturday January 18, 2024
  • Saturday January 25, 2024

What to Bring

  • Athletic wear (WARM weather appropriate clothing, shin guards, etc.)
  • Plenty of water

These additional playing opportunities will be player-centered and largely player-led and designed. Our intended focus is on supporting and developing our players’ abilities to play, adapt, and enjoy playing with a diversity of players from across the club, and across a variety of formats and surfaces. We believe that the more a child plays, the greater their knowledge, experience, enjoyment, and motivation will be to continue to play in the years to come, as well as throughout their lives. Consistently playing pick-up soccer and futsal with a mixture of fellow EMFC players, and other less-formal formats of soccer will benefit players in the development of their technical, tactical, and social skills both on the field and beyond.

Futsal

Summer futsal sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the summer, with two sessions each day; one from 9:00-10:00am and the other from 10:00-11:00am.

Players must wear flat-soled indoor soccer shoes, or other stable, flat-soled sneakers to play. NO cleats, or turf shoes, will be allowed. Shin guards and athletic clothing one would wear for playing soccer are also required. Players are encouraged to wear EMFC gear, but it is more important to wear practice gear for your dedicated team practices than for these futsal sessions.

Sessions will be led by Aden Farina-Henry, director of EMFC Mini & Little Metros, and Discovery Program. Futsal will be provided on specified Mondays and Wednesdays for each Junior Academy-U14 team. The basics of futsal techniques and rules will be taught, and players will then be given ample time to play and adapt to the physical and competitive challenges that the surface, ball, and rules of futsal afford.
