About this Program
Eugene Metro FC seeks to provide an organized, meaningful, and exciting soccer experience for each of our premier academy age players and teams.
EMFC places a high premium on providing our youngest players with all the fundamentals in each of the soccer pillars (Physical, Technical, Tactical and Psycho-social). We want to develop confident and proactive players who enjoy a passion for the game. In addition, we believe in the core values of commitment, community and confidence.

Player Selection
There will be an annual tryout in May. Players will be selected in the age band August 1 to July 31. You can read more about the new age group change here. The tryout is an initial selection process that coaches over the course of the season continue to ensure that players are placed in the appropriate environment for their development.
Premier Academy
In the Premier Academy we will select committed players who have the skill set to train at the level. We typically select a pool for two teams (9v9) in the Premier Academy (Prem 1 and 2). This pool will train together and they will play a separate game schedule. Both boys teams (Prem 1 and 2) will play in Pre-ECNL. The Prem 1 girls team will play in Pre-ECNL. Prem 2 will play in OYSA.

Competitive Teams
We form Competitive teams with roster of 12-14 players. Those teams train slightly less and a have a longer break over the winter to allow for other sports. We intend to form 2-3 Competitive teams to allow players to develop over time. In these younger age groups, players often develop at different rates, commitment levels change, and physical maturity differs. As in all our age groups, we monitor players and often provide opportunities to train up, guest play, and if needed we adjust team placement.

Commitment Level
Our program is built around an annual curriculum and game model. However, we understand that at the younger ages other sports and other interests might conflict at times with our regular program. We do support players who play other sports and will work with families to make it work. Typically, in our Premier Academy the commitment level is highest and on our Competitive teams, we already have build in breaks that work well with other sports. We ask families to be proactive in their communication with our coaches to avoid surprises. We have good experiences with basketball in the winter, track in the spring and baseball/softball in the spring. We believe that even if a player misses a few practices/games over a long season, keeping the player on the ball is critical for his/her development.
FAQ
My kid plays another sport but also loves soccer?
We do support players who play other sports and we can see the cross benefits for our sport. We ask families to communicate early about conflicts. We want to ensure players can develop in those younger ages and as long as we know about conflicts we will work with you. We believe that a steady and consistent development helps players to gain confidence and progress in the sport.
We have summer plans already that we can’t move?
Please let us know your conflicts in advance so we can add a guest player for any tournaments you might miss. We might be able to have your kid practice or play in a tournament with a different team. If we know the conflicts we are happy to work with you.
Can we play only part of the season?
Yes, we will work with families in the younger age groups (Junior Academy and U11-12) who want to play only part of the season. We will allow families to leave the team after the fall season. A family needs to let us know by November 31 that they will not return. We will then either stop the payment plan or provide a partial refund of the spring winter/spring portion of the annual fee.
What if we miss a game/tournament?
Of course, we want to have every player at all games and events but we understand that players are sick, have family events, or a school event gets in the way. As long as you communicate with us we will be very supportive.

Program Objectives
The Premier Academy trains 2-3 times throughout the year. The coaching staff follows a progressive curriculum to provide learning opportunities and challenges for all players in the U11-12 Academy. The Premier Academy prepares players for the highest and most competitive level of play. It has a larger level of commitment to train and requires a full year commitment. Travel commitment is for 2-3 summer tournaments in Oregon, League play in the Fall with about 5-6 away games in the Portland area, and 4-6 away games in the Portland area in the spring.
Our Competitive teams work on the same curriculum and have the same objectives. The calendar is less full with built in breaks, and a level of competition that is appropriate. We strive to place our teams in a competitive environment to push them but also allow for success. Our Competitive teams also aim for 2 Summer tournaments, play about 10 Fall league games and then compete in a statewide Cup. They will take a break over the winter (December, January) and then return in early February to outdoor practices.
