A great team
Eugene Metro FC is guided by a diverse and committed board:
Caitlin Vargas, Board Member and Board President
Caitlin Vargas is a dedicated member of the EMFC Board of Directors, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the soccer club. Her journey with EMFC began in 2019 when her two oldest sons joined Junior Academy. Currently, Caitlin’s involvement continues as she supports her son on U11 Premier and her daughter in Junior Academy. Even her youngest son eagerly awaits the day he can join the club.
Caitlin’s personal soccer background started at the young age of 6 years old. In recent years, she has been an indoor soccer coach at Kick City for her sons, a basketball and soccer coach at Kidsports for 4 years and a coach for the last two 3v3 tournaments. As a female coach, she is deeply committed to instilling values of respect, equity, and integrity in the young boys on her teams both on and off the field.
EMFC holds a special place in Caitlin’s heart, as it has played a pivotal role in her children’s development. Grateful for the club’s influence, she recognizes that participating with EMFC extends far beyond the soccer field. Kids involved in the club grow in confidence, sportsmanship, leadership skills, and empathy under its nurturing environment.
As a member of the EMFC Board of Directors, Caitlin Vargas aims to contribute her expertise and dedication to ensure the club’s ongoing success and positive impact on young athletes.

Scott Lacey, Board Member
Soccer has been such an important part of my life. From my own initial team sport experiences, to coaching my boys, and now keeping me (somewhat) fit. EMFC has delivered an amazing soccer experience for our kids and I’m excited to do what I can to help the club continue to provide this for kids in Eugene and Springfield.
Bryn Dennehy, Board Member
Bryn is a Eugene native who has lived and worked in the local area for 35+ years. After graduating from Churchill High School and University of Oregon, he pursued a career as a soccer coach and spent 15 years as a youth coach in various capacities for Eugene Metro FC. He also had stints as the varsity girls head coach for his alma matter at Churchill, as well as three seasons as head coach of the Lane Community College women’s soccer program. In 2022, he transitioned into the insurance industry and opened a COUNTRY Financial agency where he helps people with home, auto, business, and life insurance. As someone whose passion is soccer, he is looking forward to staying involved with the club and making an impact while serving as a board member.
Andrea Coit, Board Member. Vice President
Team sports have had a significant impact on my life, starting young and learning how to cooperate and work with others to achieve a common goal, up through college, playing Division 1 softball for LSU, some of my best memories are times spent on a field, a track or a court. It is with your teammates that you learn how to truly be a friend, how to lose with grace, and how to celebrate the success of the whole, not just the individual. I have three kids now, two sons playing in the Timbers league and a daughter who is getting ready to start. I am so excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Timbers Board, to help do what I can to continue the incredible work of this organization, so that my children and your children can experience the joy of being a part of healthy and supportive team.
Mark Schmelz, Board Member and Secretary
Mark comes to EMFC with experience as a parent to a player and with a knowledge of the impact organizations can have on the lives of participants and the responsibility that comes with that impact. He looks forward to using this knowledge to assist EMFC as it continues to evolve moving forward.
Evan O’Kelley, Board Member
As a native to Eugene, an avid soccer fan, and a father of 4 kids, finding a way to combine these interests naturally led me to want to help support EMFC as a board member. My wife and I both played soccer growing up (as well as many other sports) and we have 2 kids that have a true passion for playing club soccer. Sports play an incredible role in developing the character and confidence of children and we are hugely grateful to have a resource like EMFC in our community. I have many years of executive roles in finance, leadership, and strategy and I will work to use those experiences in order to add value to an already incredible team here at EMFC. When not at work or on the sideline, you will find me playing soccer with my family or camping and exploring national parks.
