Background
Rick Virgin was the head coach for the defending 2010 State Cup Champions EMFC 98 Storm. He has been coaching with the Eugene Metro Futbol Club since its establishment in 2006. Rick was the head coach for the EMFC U11 boys Gunners team in the 2006/2007 season and led the Gunners to a berth in the Premier Gold division for both the fall and spring seasons, as well as a berth in the 2007 Oregon State Cup quarterfinals. Rick also led the Gunners to Finalists in the 2006 prestigious Nike Lake Oswego Cup. Rick also coached EMFC 93 Ajax, and assisted with EMFC Impact. Rick has been heavily involved in the EMFC U10 Little Metros Program from organizing winter indoor teams to assembling summer tournament teams.
During 2009 and 2010 Rick volunteered as an ODP coach for the 97 Willamette Valley ODP district team.
In the Fall of 2009, Rick, along with Dave Peterson, coached the University of Oregon Club women’s soccer team to a 2nd place finish in the NCCS National Soccer Championships in Arizona.
Recently, Rick was named the varsity head coach for the men’s program at Thurston High School. Prior to that, he coached the Men’s Varsity Soccer program at Pleasant Hill High School for five years. During his tenure, he was able to turn the program into a contender for a state playoff berth each year.
He has a strong fitness background having won several bench-press contests at the state level, and having ran in four marathons including the Boston Marathon in 2001. In 1989, he was an all-conference finisher in the NWAACC Track and Field Championships in both the 5000 and 10000 meters.
Rick has two children, Ryan and Lindsay, ages 13 and 11 respectively. Ryan and Lindsay both play on EMFC teams.
